We were wondering what to do after Sibiu. The main plan was going north - towards Maramures and Bukovina - however we still had a day or two to spend it elsewhere. I very much wanted to drive towards Transfăgărășan - the most famous and beautiful Romanian road with great views over Carpathian mountains. Unfortunately the weather was not our ally - it was raining like crazy when we were leaving Sibiu and it seemed the was a very bad weather in the entire region. We decided then to head towards the north, but to visit Corvin Castle in Hunedoara on the way.
Corvin Castle is a Gothic-style castle, built in the fifteenth century on the site of the former fortress. Later on it was reconstructed several times. Today it is one of the largest castles in Europe.
The bad luck left us, cause when we arrived there, it stopped raining! The castle was spectacular! Totally different style than Peles, but also amazing. Surrounded by a moat, it was very big with towers, bastions and balconies.
We bought our tickets and we started sightseeing. We crossed the bridge to get to the main entrance and we entered to the main courtyard, surrounded from all sides by the walls of the castle.

Interiors were rather basic, not many decorations, but it's understandable given how old this castle was. The Knights Hall was probably the most interesting room with columns and flags hanging. In the past it served as a dining place during celebrations, but it was also a council room for noblemen.

Another distinctive piece was a chapel - we could see it only from the gallery above it. It hosts the replica of the Iancu’s sarcophagus which originally lies in the Catholic church in Alba Iulia.
